History & architecture
Baby Bell Rock is the local name for the smaller red-rock formation immediately northwest of Bell Rock, one of Sedona's four famous energy vortex sites. Bell Rock itself rises roughly 500 feet above the surrounding terrain at the southern entrance to the Sedona valley; Baby Bell sits at its base as a much smaller, more accessible sibling formation. Sedona's spiritual community has identified Bell Rock as a 'masculine' or 'upflow' vortex since the early 1980s, when Page Bryant's writings on Sedona's energy sites first reached a wider audience. Baby Bell Rock inherits the vortex association of its larger neighbor without requiring couples to climb the Bell Rock summit (which is a moderate scramble unsuitable for formalwear). The clearing at the base of Baby Bell has been a permitted Forest Service ceremony location for more than two decades.
